Born and raised in mainland China, Wen Wei had been dancing professionally from the age of 18 with the Langzhou regional company before coming to Canada in 1991. He has performed with a number of groups in Canada representing a variety of dance styles. Wen Wei danced for seven years with Ballet British Columbia and is well known as an expressive and versatile dancer. Wen Wei gained prestigous recognition when he received the Clifford E. Lee Award for Excellence in Choreography. With this asward, he was given the opportunity to choreograph Snow, a major work for the Banff Centre Dance Festival. At the moment, he is teaching in the dance programs of the Arts Umbrella and Harbour Dance in Vancouver. He will be choreographing a new work for Ballet Jorgen and restage Snow for the Alberta Ballet this season.
